The student will select a site or place that is frequented by families that are normally not encountered by the student. It can be any place of business, service or organization that works with families but is unfamiliar to the student. Sites that have been used in the past include day care centers, emergency rooms, hospital wards, bus stations, schools and family court.

The student is expected to observe the families, children and workers at that location for a minimum of two hours time. During that period of time note what is happening, how are people being affected, and how might this affect them at home.

PLEASE NOTE: Because of COVID concerns this session, students may choose to use previously visited sites, sites that are described in publications, sites that may be visited online, or other ways of observing families.

The student will write a Reflection Paper noting their experiences to the site visit and observations. They will report 1) what they saw and how it impacted them. They will also address 2) how it would impact the formation of a family life ministry, and 3) how might a family ministry address the families that are a part of this experience?

The Reflection Paper will be 3-5 pages in length and additionally require a cover page appropriate to the course. It should reflect graduate level insights, grammar and a professional level of writing. Note: don’t include cover page as part of the 3 page writing
