FRICTION

The lab activity uses a simulation developed by University of Colorado

Friction Simulation

Select “Friction” on the bottom of the screen, then select all the right corner options.

Start with the m=50kg wood box on the floor and increase the applied force such as the “Sum of Forces” is at least 20 N. Click “Play” and observe the motion.

· Describe how the velocity is changing during the motion.

Take a screen shot and paste it below:

· Using Newton’s second law calculate the acceleration of the box and record the value in the table. In the simulation “Sum of Forces” =Fnet

For the following trials keep the wood box on the floor and add on top of it objects such as you reach the values of the masses indicated in the table. Increase the applied force such as the “Sum of Forces” is at least 20N.
