Our assigned reading material this week highlights international terror attacks in locations such as Israel, Sri Lanka, Brazil, and in several other countries.

 

In this Critical Thinking Exercise, please reflect on the international terrorism incidents that we have learned about and compare them to terror attacks that involve United States targets. Then, please compare international terror responses and counterterrorism to what is taking place in the United States. Is the United States more or less prepared for a terror attack? Why?

 

Bring your research (at least one scholarly citation in APA format) and analysis to the discussion and share it with the class.

Incidents to choose from:

 

· India (January 21, 2002): Armed militants on motorcycles fired on the U.S. consulate in Kolkata, killing five Indian security personnel.

 

· Pakistan (June 14, 2002): A bomb exploded outside the American consulate in Karachi, killing 12.

 

· Greece (January 12, 2007): Attackers fired a rocket at the U.S. embassy in Athens. Authorities said anonymous callers claim that the attack was staged by Greek leftists.8

 

· Afghanistan (July 7, 2008): A large car bomb in Kabul killed more than 41 people at the gates of the Indian embassy.

 

· Libya (September 11, 2012): An attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi left four people dead, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya.

 

· Ukraine (June 14, 2014): The Russian embassy in Kiev was attacked in the aftermath of the downing of a Ukrainian aircraft by pro-Russian separatists.
