Order InstructionsPart of an educator’s responsibility is to recognize when students do not respond to initial core instruction and demonstrate errors or misconceptions in understanding. Data from assessments can be utilized to determine where remediation (or reteaching) needs to occur. Additionally, data can be used to identify when interventions are needed to support specific students through formalized frameworks such as RTI/MTSS. When planning and providing interventions for ELLs, teachers must ensure the interventions are appropriate for language learners and take cultural and linguistic considerations into account.

Allocate at least 3 hours in the field to support this field experience.

Part 1: Mentor Interview

Spend at least one hour interviewing your mentor teacher about remediation and intervention practices used with ELLs. Include the following questions in your mentor interview:

Before intervention, how do you use classroom assessment data to determine if remediation is required and reteaching is needed for your whole class? What types of assessments have you used to determine remediation? How does analyzing the data help you to plan instruction for reteaching? How do you approach reteaching to ensure remediation is not the same as initial instruction? How does remediation benefit your ELLs specifically? How does your school implement Response to Intervention (RTI) or multitiered systems of support (MTSS)? What does it look like at the classroom and school levels? How do these approaches support ELLs? What are the benefits and challenges of implementing RTI/MTSS?How is progress monitoring conducted for ELLs? How is the data collected and used to determine the appropriate support for students? Who is involved in the problem-solving and decision-making process to determine these supports? How does your school ensure the research-based instructional and assessment methods being used in general education classrooms are appropriate for ELLs?What intervention strategies do you use in working with ELLs on both academic skills and language acquisition? What technology in your school helps support these interventions? What additional technology would be nice to have that would offer additional ways for you to support the ELLs in your classroom? What in-school and out-of-school supports are provided for students needing intervention, including for ELLs?Take notes during your interview as you will provide them when submitting this assignment.

Part 2: Observation, Discussions, and Intervention Implementation

Continue observing the identified ELL student from Clinical Field Experience A. Observe the student in the content area in which you plan to implement intervention and notice the student’s opportunities for growth.

With your mentor, review data collected on the student, such as scores from recent formative assessments. If applicable, this can include the formative assessment you created with your mentor for Clinical Field Experience B. Based on the discussion of data, collaborate with your mentor to:

Identify a specific skill the student needs support in.Determine a measurable goal for the student.Plan an appropriate intervention that you can implement quickly and easily.Determine how data will be collected during the intervention. With the support of your mentor, implement the intervention with the student and collect data.

Following the implementation, discuss with your mentor what the data revealed. Ask questions regarding the student’s need for further intervention and ongoing progress monitoring.

Part 3: Reflection

In 250-500 words, write a reflection on your experience implementing the intervention. Include the following in your reflection:

Summarize the initial student data collected and how you and your mentor determined the implemented intervention.Briefly describe the intervention you implemented, including the length of time, materials used, and procedures implemented. Include the specific skill you were addressing, the measurable goal set for the student, and how you collected data.Discuss what the intervention data revealed and what recommendations you would make regarding further intervention and ongoing progress monitoring.Explain how this experience of implementing intervention will support your future professional practice.APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.
