BEFORE STARTING: Review the
requirements located in Brainstorming
Discussions
For the next eight weeks, we will be
visiting with Jane Clive the current IT
department head at the Chicago North
America Branch of an airline freight
delivery service. Global Delivery Direct
(GDD) has grown rapidly but is currently
suffering stagnant growth due to strong
market competition. Jane is
acutely aware that there is a need to
become more efficient and to work
together across the company to define
ways to strategically plan an initiative
that will encourage company growth
with a competitive edge. Jane also
knows that much of this initiative could
be led efficiently with a knowledge
management office and department.
Jane decided that she is going to make it
her challenge to convince President
Rockfish to consider letting her put
together a knowledge management
office and hire a knowledge
management manager. To begin her
campaign Jane has decided to send him
a memo to begin conversations on the
value of knowledge management to an
organization. Being very busy she has
asked you to complete the memo for her
edit.
Skill #1: Identifying how KM creates
value for a company
Directions:
1. BY SATURDAY, complete the
following:
Review all materials related
to the GDD Case Study.
Using your own words and
based on this week’s readings
create an office memo
addressed to CEO Mr.
Rockfish explaining why it is
imperative that the company
create a new KM department
at GDD.
Be sure to include:
a discussion
surrounding the
multidisciplinary nature
of KM;
the value using KM
processes to share
information has to an
organization;
why the KM cycle with
its dynamic nature fits
the change and
innovation needs in
business today, and
choose one of the KM
cycles discussed in the
readings and why you
believe it would be a
good fit for GDD.
The memo must be
persuasive! Use words that
show enthusiasm, are
descriptive and present the
strongest arguments you can
make to support your need to
bring a KM department on
board.
You must use course material
to support your responses
and APA in-text citations
with a reference list.
2. THROUGHOUT THE WEEK,
complete the following:
Respond to your
classmates three or more
days throughout the week.
Remember you are trying to
develop the best answers to
the questions as possible.
Your classmates are doing the
same so read the posts
carefully looking for the best
ideas being presented. The
goal is that by the end of the
week the class will come to
some consensus as to the
best answers giving you the
chance to submit the best
ideas in the final post.
You must use course
materials to support your
responses. Ensure you
include in your comments
where in our readings you
they can find the supporting
materials so they can improve
their final posting.
Participation must be
reflected in the final post so
grades will be affected by the
content portion of the post if
participation is not shown.
Therefore, it is important to
get in the class often and
with the idea of improving
your initial post with the
discussion so that the final
grade will be the best you
can deliver.
3. BY TUESDAY, complete the
following:
Attach your final post in the
classroom by 11:59 PM ET
The final post must reflect
the brainstorming activities
and should be different than
the Saturday initial post.
The final post must include a
variety of sources from the
class material as well as the
use of scenario or case study
facts where appropriate.
How to Do Well in Discussions

above questions by Saturday, 11:59 p.m.

and respond to four or more students to
receive full credit for frequency of
