HRM 7004 WEEK 1 NOTE AND ASSIGNMENT
Working Remotely
Flexible workplace, working from home, telecommuting, telework, remote work, distance working, and remote work are phrases that are used interchangeably to describe employees’ workstations and settings that do not require them to report to an office setting to complete their daily tasks. The advantages of having a flexible workplace include time not wasted on commuting, not having to worry about childcare, and fewer distractions from coworkers.  However, there are also downfalls, with depression being the most worrisome disadvantage of not reporting to a workspace daily.
Over the years, many studies have been conducted investigating whether working from home is beneficial for the employee while asking the question if staff is actually productive. Mirela (2020) conducted a study investigating the advantages and disadvantages of working from home and attempting to find ways to better work from home. The study found working from home had a negative effect on staff productivity.
A separate large-scale study involving nine different European countries, consisting of 11,011 participants, yielded similar results. In this study, working remotely was found to negatively affect productivity for individual contributors and team performance suffering when co-workers were dispersed (Lippe & Lippényi, 2020). However, a study carried out by Russo et al. (2021) investigating over 50 psychological factors tied to the well-being and productivity of software engineers forced to work from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic found a positive correlation between well-being and productivity as it related to remote work.

Week 1 – Assignment: Assess the Remote Workforce
Allowing employees to work remotely can have positive attributes such as higher productivity due to less or no commute time.  But there are also negative aspects of remote work like less collaboration and possible burnout.
For this assignment, discuss the positive and negative aspects of allowing employees to work remotely. You could use several different types of charts to accomplish this, one being the Venn Diagram.  However, please feel free to use other types of charts to display this information.
When evaluating the positive and negative viewpoints, be sure to assess items such as:
•    Employee engagement/motivation
•    Employment laws and regulations
•    Employee performance/productivity
•    Supervising remote employees
When rating the items in your chart as positive or negative, please justify why you decided so.
Length: 250-word chart (approximately 1 page) with separate title page and reference page
References: Include a minimum of 3 scholarly references.
The completed assignment should address all of the assignment requirements, exhibit evidence of concept knowledge, and demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the content presented in the course. The writing should integrate scholarly resources, reflect academic expectations and current APA standards
