The objective of this experiment is to test stains for the presence of blood using luminescence presumptive tests for blood.

Equipment:

Synthetic blood
Vinyl tile–three tiles (eight x twelve inch square, available in local home improvement store)
Luminol
Bleach–one fourth cup
Latex free gloves
Camera
Procedure:

To obtain samples from the surface of a vinyl tile, including positive and negative controls, and follow the steps given below:

Place a couple of drops of human blood on a tile. You can drop or swipe the blood onto the tile.
Following the manufacturer’s instructions for safety and preparation, and enhance the bloodstain on the first tile with luminol.
Document your observations.
On the second tile, drop or swipe the blood and apply a small amount of bleach.
Gently wipe the bleach from the tile. You can experiment with other household cleaners. Allow the tile to dry.
Apply luminol to the wiped-off stain and document your observations.
On the third tile, apply luminol. Allow the tile to dry.
Document the results.
In all the experiments, remember to photograph the results and observations.

Comparison and contrast of the false positive with the presumptive positive test on the bloodstain.
Note: In your discussion, include a summary of a recent study related to presumptive or confirmatory test.
